Malaysian, Iranian Leaders Discuss Usage of Gold Dinar

Iranian leaders is interestedin Malaysia's suggestion to use gold dinar as another means to settle trade transactions, Malaysian Foreign Minister Syed Hamid Albar said Monday.
The interest was showed by Iranian President Mohammad Khatami during his second meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad in Putrajaya Monday evening, Syed Hamid told a press conference after attending the meeting between the two leaders.
Earlier, Khatami, who arrived here Sunday evening for a three-day visit, held the first meeting with Mahathir, discussing bilateral ties and the Islamic world affairs.
"He (Khatami) said we should get into more discussion on the matter to encourage more countries to look into the possibility ofanother option for settlement of trade transaction," Syed Hamid said.
He said the meeting was very productive with discussion aimed at bringing mutual benefit to both countries, especially in the area of economic and trade cooperation.
He said the two leaders also talked about the exchange of experience and expertise in areas both countries have strength in.
He said Khatami also brought up the subject of cooperation in the area of art, tourism and artistic cultural filming in view of Iran's success in film producing. Iran has won several international awards for its feature movies.
Six Memoranda of Understanding were signed at the end of the meeting on enhancing cooperation and bilateral relations between the two countries, according to the minister.
